Rockjumper - Worldwide Birding Adventures originally shared: The Himalayan Cutia (Cutia nipalensis) is a member of the Old World passerine family Leiothrichidae (Laughingthrushes) and it's a bird that certainly epitomises the prolific and exciting birding on offer in the small, landlocked country of Bhutan. It’s a bird of tropical and subtropical humid montane broadleaf foothill forests and it’s natural range extends from eastern Uttarakhand in northern India east to Bhutan and northeast India, through Myanmar and southern China, north-west Thailand, Laos and Vietnam to Peninsular Malaysia. This “oversized nuthatch-like species”, with its striking, bluish-grey, black, white and orange plumage, is a true beauty! Usually found in small groups of between 10 and 20 birds, its unobtrusive habits, general scarcity and sensationally beautiful plumage make it one of the region’s most desirable birds to see.
