Monarch (Danaus plexippus) Marilou Aballe originally shared: Monarch (Danaus plexippus) A visit from royalty for the #bokehholics of G+ for#FridaysAreBokehlicious (this beautiful Monarch butterfly was photographed a few days ago feeding on our zinnia blooms and it's always a joy getting visits from them late summer to early fall). Monarchs are a threatened species but we can do our part in saving them by planting milkweed in our backyards and gardens. Monarch caterpillars only feed on milkweed, their host plant. No milkweed, no monarchs :( We have a patch of milkweed in our front yard and we are already seeing about 6 monarch caterpillars ready to go into pupa stage.
